Understanding/Expressing Language

Evaluation considers the risk factors, the current extent of stuttering, and whether the child is likely to outgrow stuttering or require treatment.  Treatment can be either direct (working with the child) and/or indirect (working with adults in the child's environment).

Lidcombe Program

The Lidcombe Program has a high rate of success in children up to about age 9.   Treatment requires a daily session at home, provided by a parent or caregiver who is coached  by the SLP.  The parent/caregiver and child also attend one hour of weekly therapy with the SLP.  Implementing this program correctly usually takes a year of treatment.

Fluency Shaping

Fluency Shaping helps the child learn ways of speaking more fluently, reducing the frequency and duration of stuttering.
